Sunday Silence

Everyday life with Good Cats, plus anything else that comes to mind.
Over at 5-Cat Style & The Flyer, Gucci the House Panther has had his world turned upside down. His humans have adopted an adorable gray tabby lady kitten and named it Tiffany (Tiffy for short). Gucci will need time to adjust, but I think he will come to understand that the kitten had no home and that his humans wanted to help her.
Flowers are also blooming at the Wisconsin home of Derby, the Sassy Cat, and Derby’s mum has also photographed them… only her flowers are larger than our little violets, and also in the photos is cute Vir-ginger, Derby’s silent friend.

From here at the Dell’s keyboard, I can hear rain pouring down outside. The forecast calls for more throughout the weekend, so this afternoon I had to first mow and then fertilize the lawn.
At the back of the property, near the neighbor’s line, there was the small patch of violets pictured above.
The neighbor’s property is bright green, thanks to the lawn care company that sprays and dumps chemicals on it.
Ours was the only yard I could see with lots of yellow flowers, but Pat + I just don’t feel good about using chemical herbicides, especially on ground where our cats walk regularly.
Last year I tried spreading corn gluten meal, an organic herbicide, but all it can do is keep new seeds from sprouting. The dandelions, already established and deeply rooted, continued to grow and flourish. I mowed down many of the yellow flowerheads today before they could spread their seeds, which probably makes us more popular with the neighbors.
Didn’t mow the violets, though. Maybe next time. Probably not.

Caitie seems to be sneaking up on another of our cats, but Lizzie (unlike Kelly a couple of days ago) knows where the sneaky calico is coming from…

Caitie always seems to have a suspicious look on her face. I imagine that if she could talk, she’d ask “What are you doing? Why are you doing that? What are you going to do with my picture? Did you get my good side? Have you talked to my publicist?”
But then, curiosity is another indicator of a Good Cat…
Miles the Meezer has gone to the trouble of making his Top Ten list to explain his perfectly logical “Reasons why I cannot lay still.”
