Caitie Takes a Stand

Posted in Cats at 6:17

Caitie, otherwise known as Glare, the uncanny X-Cat, mystifies her foe with flashing eyes. This move confuses Nicky and creates doubt in his mind. Moments later, the black cat retreats, leaving Caitie/Glare victorious once more.

Memorial Day Link

Posted in This, that and the other at 14:38

Years ago, in the pre-Google days, it was harder to find specific things on the web, but a person just surfing around could happen upon any number of fascinating sites.

Looking one day for information on cartooning, I found and visited George Rarey’s World War II Air Force Cartoon Journals. Rarey’s son Damon, who was born just before his father’s death in the war, put together the site, and it’s both a tribute to his father and a long look at the artistic talent he had. On this Memorial Day, we remember him and thank him and all veterans who gave their lives for their country.

Attractive, But Impractical

Posted in Cats, This, that and the other at 0:05

Good morning, dove.

Caitie on the hood of the Midnite blue Cruiser.

Both this mourning dove and Caitie seem to have been auditioning for a role as a hood ornament for my PT Cruiser. Caitie got the location right, anyway.

But while we’re on the subject, you can find some real classic hood ornaments here.

A Satisfied Customer

Posted in This, that and the other at 18:14

Comment spam was a problem here for a little while, until a tip from Coll’s Corner helped me by recommending Akismet.

In the last couple of days, the bottom-feeders behind trackback spam discovered this quiet corner of cyberspace, and this morning I deleted 54 of those little honeys from 54 separate posts. One by one by one. No fun.

I shut off trackbacks until a quick check of Google turned up a defense for WordPress users.

Then, when I went to install it, the FTP program timed out. Email didn’t work either, so I quickly went to the site of the company that provides the web hosting for “What a Good Cat!”, 3 Good Cats, and It’s all Good.

Now, my web host is a good one, because I almost never know it’s there. They have trouble that affects me briefly maybe once a year, and they bill me once a year. The rest of the time, I forget I’m their customer, the way it should be.

Right there in bright green at the top of the page was a link to their server status, and on the server status page was a message advising that indeed, my server and a few others had been having problems during the day, but that they were working on the repair.

Minutes later, it was back up, and I uploaded the Rice University plug-in and activated it. Crises averted. Happy again!

(Now, gotta run — need to mow the lawn and do some trimming tonight…)

Just After Takeoff

Robin in flight

What I wanted was a photo of this robin doing what it was doing before it took off. I got the camera open and ready too late to do that, but this picture isn’t a bad consolation prize…

Slinky Nicky

Nicky in hunting mode.

Low to the ground, Nicky isn’t stalking game. He’s trying to sneak up on Caitie, who’s at the far end of Pat’s garden.
