Good Baby, Good Cat
Pat took care of granddaughter Diana 4 days this week, but not the same 4 days as usual. She likes Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday, but this week it was Tuesday through Friday.
So she would have been tired anyway, but 28-month-old Diana did not want to nap this afternoon either, so they were playing inside the house and out in the yard, and at last the little girl was ready to lie down…except her father was going to pick her up in just a few minutes…meaning that it was a tired and cranky Diana who went home with daddy Jack.
And Pat went back inside, tired but smiling from a memory of Diana dancing around in the back yard, waving her arms and calling out, “I butterfly! I butterfly!” And, looking forward to spending next Monday with an amazing baby girl…
When the baby goes home on Friday, I can bring out the laptop and set it up in the family room, knowing that it doesn’t have to be put away all weekend. I pulled Diana’s small desk over to the love seat and opened the Dell on top of it, plugging in the computer and booting it up. While it went through the boot sequence, I went upstairs to change into Friday night cocooning clothes, with a brief pause by the sofa to give Mr. Kelly a quick tummy rub. He looked comfortable, with his front paws stretched across a red fleece blanket. Still, before leaving the room I spread his favorite soft gold blanket across the seat of his (formerly my) recliner, just in case he decided to move.
After putting on the warm, soft clothing, I went back downstairs and saw that Kelly had indeed decided to move while I was gone.
But not to the recliner with the gold blanket. Nope…
…instead, he was sprawled across the seat of the love seat. The same love seat where I had planned to sit…
So in case you wondered about the difference between a good cat and a Good Cat… a good cat is supposed to get lots of rest. However, a cat who leaves one comfortable spot and ignores another comfortable spot in order to lay claim to the one spot in the room where his human was planning to sit — now, that’s a Good Cat.
