3 Good Dots Saturday…

Posted in Cats, This, that and the other at 11:45

– I feel good today… finally caught up on sleep. Lost that hour a couple of weeks ago with the switch to daylight time and it felt like I hadn’t recovered from it until this morning…

– Of course, the cats never run on Eastern Standard Time or Daylight Time. The only thing that matters to them is Cat Stomach Time…

– The Good Cats have been outside already, and for those of you who were betting, the first cat outside this morning was… Lizzie! Everyone who had Lizzie in your bracket can continue in the pool. (Talk about your upsets — it wasn’t that long ago Lizzie was too scared to go outside at all.) This morning, she outmaneuvered the others to the position closest to the door jamb and when I slid the door open, she leaped out ahead of Nicky and Caitie. Kelly was bringing up the rear today…

– Getting close to Easter, so let’s join the Columbus House Rabbit Society and remind everyone to say “Make mine chocolate.”…

– Speaking of chocolate, here’s a word from our alternate sponsor:

– Friday Cat Blogging, West Coast Edition: At News From ME, Mark Evanier takes time out from posting about pop culture to show one of the 2 neighborhood cats who visit him regularly. No photo of the other cat, but I’d like to think it was out getting fitted for a gorilla suit

– CD of the week: Nellie McKay’s “Pretty Little Head” She’s got talent. She’s got spunk. Unlike Lou Grant and other curmudgeons, I *like* spunk…

– One more thing: Granddaughter Diana posed for a few more photos this week (which makes perhaps a thousand or so that her Pop-Pop has taken)… I showed one of them to her on the Konica-Minolta camera, pressing the zoom button so she could see it better. Then I showed her another one with the help of the zoom. I clicked over to a third photo, and *Diana* calmly reached out and pressed the zoom button. She had learned it just that fast, and she isn’t going to be 3 years old until May… I predict a brilliant future for her… and I’ll talk to you later…

2K is OK

Posted in This, that and the other at 0:05

In the past few weeks, I’ve read some blogs that were amusing and others that were dull, some that were entertaining and others that were offensive, some that were gentle and others that were in my face about something.

And I would never have known about any of them if it weren’t for the project 2000 Bloggers. (It’s all Good. is on that list, too.)

Here in the sidebar, there are dozens of links to cat blogs, plus I have dozens of subscriptions in Google Reader and hundreds of bookmarks in both Firefox and Opera. With all that known content, the 2K Bloggers project reminds me it’s good to indulge in some random blogsurfing too.

Most recently, the blog named The Spy in the Sandwich got my attention with its name, and kept it with its content. One post described someone who can be added to the list of the world’s dumbest criminals: one of the blogger’s students turned in a paper that plagiarized an article written by the instructor himself.

3 Good Links Thursday

Posted in Cats, This, that and the other at 7:05

One Good Cat Link: One out of every eight humans has a problem with excess self-esteem, according to Dr. John Newmeyer. His recommendation for treatment is called Feline Intervention to Rightsize Self-Esteem.

One Video Link: I wanted to post the one of the baby laughing at Dad’s Wii, but YouTube comments seemed to say that this one’s so popular it’s already been shown on television.

So instead, here’s one that hasn’t been seen by tens of thousands of people (yet). Icon Baxter Bentley presents Katie - up close and personal:

One Other Link: It’s not too soon to plan for Peace Globe Day. Dona Nobis Pacem.

On the Internet, no one knows you’re a human

Posted in Cats at 10:05

You may have heard about this already, but just in case, I wanted to pass along this information from an article at SFGate.com. Hope you’re sitting down for this: Some so-called cats on the Internet aren’t really cats. They’re humans.

A tip of the Good Cats’ hats to Skeezix for unearthing this scoop.

While on the topic, I don’t talk baby talk to the Good Cats. It’s just not how I see them communicating. If I tried it with Kelly, I can just imagine him narrowing his eyes as if to say “Why on earth are you talking that way?” Nicky would just go “You talkin’ to me? You talkin’ to ME?”

Good Things: Spring

Posted in The Good things in life at 0:05

Yes, it’s the first day of spring, and the 8 inches of snow that blanketed the area just last Friday is today no more than a few soggy patches, with the rest melted down to a lot of puddles and mud.

That, and some still-fresh memories of Diana with plenty of raw material to make snow angels…

What is a Good Cat?

Posted in Cats, What is a Good Cat? at 0:05

Caitie-Belle has a sweet tooth, and Pat loses her cookies; um, I mean cookie.

Pat had brought a dish of vanilla ice cream into the family room, and as usual was followed closely by Caitie, who wanted to share it with her.  Ordinarily, Pat will oblige and let her lick out the bowl when she’s finished, but on this particular evening, Pat also had a home-baked sugar cookie, which she had no intention of sharing with our Calico Diva.

Caitie hopped onto the couch next to Pat and began mooching, but Pat held up the cookie and said, "See? It’s a cookie.  Cats don’t eat cookies."

Unconvinced, Caitie responded by quickly leaning over and licking one edge of the cookie.

Pat decided, perhaps understandably, that she didn’t want that part of the cookie anymore, and broke it off and gave it to Caitie.  The cat accepted the offer enthusiastically, finishing her unexpected sweet treat in a few small bites.  It was a real win-win situation:  the cat got her treat and, even better, Pat learned something new about Good Cats — not only can you not tell them what to do, you also can’t tell them what they can’t do, either.
