On this Memorial Day, we remember…

St. Paul’s Church, Trexlertown, Pennsylvania is not far from where we live now. In its cemetery are several headstones like the one above honoring military veterans. (To find more, look for duplicate numbers, such as 448 and 448A.)
During the Civil War, thousands of prisoners of war from the Confederate States of America were held on Johnson’s Island, Ohio, and only a dozen men would escape. The Confederate Stockade Cemetery contains the remains of a few hundred soldiers.
Fallen Heroes is the name of a moving series of photos taken at a military cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.

Private Heintz lived a long life. We thank him, too, for his service … especially at the beginning of our nation.
