3 Good Dots…
I feel good today… back in town, with a little of this and a little of that… first, thanks to everyone who sent purrayers and good thoughts for my mother. She is now home, and she’s happy to be there, particularly back in her own bed…
– While on the subject of medical treatment, last Saturday it was Nicky and Lizzie’s turn to go in to see Dr. Donovan for a checkup and a rabies shot. As always, Nicky began to yowl the instant he was put in the carrier, and continued all the way there until we took him out. We are glad… very, very glad… that it is not a long drive to Dr. Donovan’s office. These two Good Cats are in good health; Nicky weighed 14.3 pounds, the same as last year. Lizzie’s weight has gone from 16.8 pounds last year to 15.2 now, and we’re glad of that, too…
– ‘It’s all Good.’ was recently upgraded to version 2.2 of WordPress. Technology journalist Ed Bott did the same thing at his blog, and he was having some problems, but now he posts that everything’s OK. I know of one visitor to the Good Cats whose comments were regularly ending up in the Akismet spam-post pile, but that seems to have worked itself out. Akismet says that if you tell it to de-spam a comment, it’s supposed to learn from that and not do it again, so I’ll take them at their word that it’s what happened here…
– Still fiddling around with Linux… while I liked PCLinuxOS 2007, I am especially fond of SimplyMEPIS 6.5. Like many varieties of Linux, it’s possible to run it from what is called a Live CD to try it out. The PC is running SimplyMEPIS right now, and I’ve had next to no problems with it. If it keeps up like this, I can see myself installing this one on the PC. That is, as soon as I figure out the ins and outs of installing both Linux and Windows on one hard drive.
– And now, although I never need a reason to feature a Steely Dan song, this is in honor of Alton Brown’s latest episode of Good Eats on the Food Network, tonight at 10:00…
– Not everyone loses in Las Vegas. The lure of easy money attracts cheaters, and people carrying big bankrolls can be marks for robbery and theft. Security personnel are trained to look for specific signs, but also to trust their instincts, when something just doesn’t look right…
– Now here’s a word from our alternate sponsor…
– It’s summertime, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, so beat the heat as best you can: air conditioning, or a nice shady spot by a stream; ice cream, perhaps an ice cold Pepsi-Cola; and hey, who knows, maybe even this new Pepsi product… anyway, keep cool, and I’ll talk to you later…

Glad to read your mom is doing well. And, that your latest Linux tryout is working nicely.

Love Steely Dan–what a treat. And thanks for the vintage Pepsi ad, too. I’d forgotten it used to be for those who think young!
