Posted in Caitie, Cats, What is a Good Cat?
at 0:05
Cats climb for a number of reasons, and although I can’t be sure why Caitie is on Diana’s swing set, given what I do know about Caitie’s agility, in this instance my first guess would be a combination of “Because I want to” and “Because I can.” Reason enough for a Good Cat…

Pat planned the little landscaped area at the back of the property to attract things with wings, and the results have been good. We have butterflies, we have moths, we have dragonflies, we even have some bees, but… as of yet, no hummingbirds.
For now, I’m looking on the web for them. Here’s one place where I found some nice hummingbird pictures. (And scroll down past the hummer photos and check out the great dragonfly shots, too.)

As soon as I saw this story in today’s local newspaper, I had no doubt it would not stay local. Beepocalypse picked up on it right away, and it’s probably just a matter of time before it gets posted on the Darwin Awards as well. (Wonder who actually is/was the oldest D.A. winner?)
Beepocalypse also took note of the recent New Yorker article by Elizabeth Kolbert that researched the possible reasons for Colony Collapse Disorder. To learn more, Ms. Kolbert raised some hives, and she also admitted to learning some important lessons the hard way about keeping a hive out of the reach of creatures that like honey.
Between the heat and the lack of measurable rain around here lately, I have hesitated to mow the lawn, and as a result there are many little patches of clover thriving in the back yard. Clover is good for the soil, and it attracts insects too; I’ve seen a few kinds of bees around the clover blossoms. Not only insects, either — last night, I spotted a nibbling cottontail. I think Caitie did too, judging from her posture of intense attention in the kitchen window…
