Kelly is sick
Had to rush Kelly to the vet this morning… we’re used to the Big Guy vomiting from time to time, but not this much. In addition, he was not eating and was avoiding people. Dr. Smith looked Kelly over pretty thoroughly, and took him in back for x-rays and to take blood and urine samples.
Afterward, Dr. Smith showed me the x-rays and pointed out some thickening in the intestines, but no blockage. Kelly’s temperature was normal, but he’s lost about a pound just since his last shots earlier this year. We’ve been trying to get him down from his high weight of 23 pounds a few years ago, so maybe this is just a sign that what we’re doing is working. Not drinking an unusually high amount of water, so probably not diabetes.
Anyway, blood tests will be back Monday. Until then, the vet wants Kelly to eat nothing until much later today, and then only easy to digest food like chicken baby food. If you know Kelly, you know that the first part will be hard, but the second part won’t.
To keep Kelly away from food, I’ve isolated him in the upstairs bathroom with water, a litterbox, and a soft fleece blanket to sleep on. (Don’t want him throwing up on his Gizzy Quilt or the cat comforter that DKM knitted.)
And on top of all that, Pat’s not 100% right now either. I’m going to go take care of some things for her now. Will write when I can, but probably won’t be visiting other blogs as much as I would normally.

I’se still just being happy to have my purrsons and my baby food, not to forget my cat chair, back after hiding under the deck… and coming home to find that my misadventure put me on the Inner/Inter/Enter… well whatever they call the net… and that beautiful Kelly had troubles now, and Pat as well. We’re sorry to hear that Kelly is sick. We hope the V-E-T can figure out what’s causing this soon.
Did the V-E-T rule out an obstruction? Mom learned about that the hard way. Metal is the only thing that shows up well on an x-ray. Earl Grey had eaten a piece of plastic that didn’t show up on the x-rays and he was one sick kitty for a couple of weeks. An ultrasound showed something in there where his stomach meets his intestine and then they did surgery to dig it out. But it took lots of V-E-T visits and tests and x-rays and medicine to figure that out. Mom wishes she would have demanded an ultrasound early – it would’ve saved lots of time (and money) and EG wouldn’t have had to be so sick for so long.
We’re sending lots of pawsitive thoughts and purrayer out to you guys. We hope Kelly feels better soon.
