Thursday Thirteen #9: The Anti-Bucket List

Thursday Thirteen graphic by Samulli
By now, you should have heard about the movie “The Bucket List”, where Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman portray old men who are trying to accomplish things before they kick the bucket.
Perhaps I lack a sense of adventure or urgency, but instead I have decided to list 13 things I hope and plan never to do (or do again) before shuffling off this mortal coil:
- No piercings, no tattoos. (Made it this far without them.)
- No using phrases out of my age group, e.g.: “That’s how I roll”; “I was rocking the black Nikes”
- No wearing clothes out of my age group. (That’s particularly painful to see when someone else does it.)
- No Facebook, no MySpace page (or any other “hot” site).
- No running. (Yesssss! I always hated running.)
- No more taking college courses for credit (they’re the ones that are no fun).
- No more listening to Top-40 radio. (I’ll check out PopMatters.com for new music)
- I won’t watch a full basketball or hockey game, or any NFL game except the Super Bowl, and then only if a local team is in it. (Maybe.)
- No betting on sports, either players (fantasy) or teams (pools).
- No more winters in northern Ohio (or north of that latitude).
- No more mowing the lawn or shoveling snow (not yet, but soon, I hope).
- No turning anything up to 11 (even 11 on a scale of 100).
- Not allowed to say to granddaughter Diana, “When I was your age…”

Some of these would be easier than others I think. I like the idea of an anti-bucket list!

Sounds wonderful. Sometimes the things we choose NOT to do define us even more that the things we do. You are defining yourself quite nicely!

I’m glad to say I have avoided all those. I especially loathe tattoos and piercings.
