Thursday Thirteen #10: Things We Don’t Share

It’s hard to make an argument against sharing — from childhood, that’s a behavior we’re taught is good. Just the same, while Pat + I share many chores, under ordinary circumstances a few are designated as belonging only to one of us.

Good Ideas: Need A Hug?
Four years after its conception, the Free Hugs Campaign idea is spreading around the world. But it started small, when one man (who goes by the name Juan Mann) was feeling alone in a crowd.
Have you hugged someone you love today? It’s full of good things…
Today’s Helpful Hint
If you want to make a living (of sorts) as a burglar, you need to do your homework before breaking into a house. Of course, you should case the joint, but you really ought to do some research on the owner, too. And, as one would-be burglar found out the hard way, if she’s a marathon runner with a black belt in karate, try the next house.

What is a Good Cat? Nicholas Hunter Cat, Esq.

“Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.” |
|
Pat was fixing lunch one afternoon and I was sitting near her in the kitchen, reading the newspaper. I felt a cat jump onto my lap, and I could tell it was Nicky just from the feel of his thick fur. I scratched behind his ears and waited for him to lie down and make himself comfortable, but he wouldn’t. Instead, he was closely watching Pat as she prepared lunch, more than likely trying to see whether she had something for him. The sneaky little guy knew he wasn’t allowed on the table or the counter, so he just chose the highest legal vantage point in the room. Nicky seems to understand as well as any lawyer the difference between the the letter and the spirit of the law. Another time, he began to scratch the carpet on the staircase, and Pat told him to stop. He did as he was told, but then he hopped up one step and started scratching the carpet there. You could just imagine him thinking, “OK, you told me I’m not allowed to scratch that step, but you didn’t say I couldn’t scratch this one!” |
