Thursday Meme (the short version)

Posted in This, that and the other at 7:30

Got drafts going on at the same time in 3 baseball leagues, and my copy of Baseball Prospectus 2008 just came in the mail yesterday, so there’s not much brainpower left over for a meme. (That rules out the Thursday Thirteen.)

Instead, via The Daily Meme, this is 3x Thursday:

3x Thursday: 02/28/y2k+8: Special Abilities

1. Do you have a green thumb? How so/not?

Nope. Getting my hands dirty has never been my idea of fun. If Pat needs help with her garden, I’ll do it, but after that I’m outta there. (And to the bathroom sink ASAP.)

2. What is your best skill/ability? Why?

In the past 10 years or so, I’ve become pretty good at reading instructions and learning from them. That’s come in mighty handy when doing computer-related things. Naturally, I’d rather have something that is designed so well that it’s possible to pick it up and use it without ever opening the manual, but if need be, I know how to learn something from reading help documents.

3. If someone asked a friend of yours, “Hey, what is one thing your friend is exceptional at?”, what would they say about you? Why?

The cliche is that older people have to ask their children (or grandchildren) how to use modern technology. I think Pat would say that does not apply to me. To name some specifics, I have learned to program the VCR (nope, no TiVo or other DVR yet); use the remote (or if necessary, the remotes); do online banking; set up a wireless router; fix moderately difficult computer hardware and software problems (and can walk her through fixing some over the phone); and I help her get the most out of the electronic gadgetry in her car.

OK, I’m going back to my baseball hobby now… yessir, sure is fun… and oh, the things I could tell you about the players I’m getting

I’m kind of jealous of the fantasy baseball thing. I’ve never been involved, but have a sense that I would really like it. I’m sure there must be blogs/websites all about it.

My mother-in-law, next door, has 2 feral cats that live on her back porch. We trapped them, had them spayed and vacinated when they first came around. Except that they can’t come in the house, these cats have it really good. We have them all fixed up with a warm shelter and she cooks for them like you’d cook for your family. Their food is served warm, about three times a day. And, they are absolutely gorgous!! Thick, clean fur, lean and athletic. I see them all over the neighborhood, back in the woods, or down in our shed hunting birds.

Sometimes, by the end of summer, we can pet the little female a bit, but they are wild.

    regards!
