Remembering an Absent Friend

This is El Gato Perfecto. He was a big man cat, and he was a good cat.
Gato went to the bridge 25 years ago today. You can read his story here.

That is a wonderful story. He seemed like a great cat and you loved him. You can’t be too hard on yourself for what happened. The PM’s sister dealing with similar thought this weekend. You did the best you could. What a great cat!

All of us who love cats, and leave food for them and bring them in our homes have a Gato in our lives. My cat of guilt and regret was Phaedra, a pretty gray cat from my single years in Washington D.C. I keep hoping that my current dear little gray tabby Ossie, who turned up starving in my garage, is some retribution, but the truth is that Phaedra was her own cat, and Ossie is his own. Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s amazing how many nice people have a terrible cat story, Janet (and the kids Angus, Misha and Ossie.)

I just read his story and you say if you wouldn’t have let him out he would have lived longer. That might be true. But he might not have lived happier! I am sure our Anastasia would still be alive today if we wouldn’t have let her out…. but she would be miserable. She lived only 3 years - but every day was the most wonderful day for her! Our staff lets me out every day, knowing I might be taken, but also knowing how miserable I would be indoors…. Some cats are not meant to be locked up! It is nice of you to remember Gato so many years later!

It is always good to remember the ones that came before!
That’s how you keep memories alive

El Gato Perfecto–now there is a name. And of course we do what we know at the time. Hindsight and more learning is always clearer than the moments we live isn’t it? Gato had the life he wanted. Purrs.

Gato was a Good Cat, for sure. My Mommie still thinks about Haiku, a little chocolate-point Siamese cat who went to the Bridge almost 20 years ago.
