The recipe on AllRecipes.com is called “Clone of a Cinnabon”, and when Pat found it, she asked if I’d be interested in making it. (Pat does nearly all the cooking at our house, but I try to help her out by baking treats from time to time.)
At AllRecipes, it reads “Save yourself a lot of money by making your own homemade cinnamon rolls! The dough is made in the bread machine and everything else is done by hand. … Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start.”
“After the dough has doubled in size turn it out… and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.”
“Roll dough into a 16×21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture.”
“Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled…” Here’s one of the two pans of rolls. It was Pat’s idea to use parchment paper instead of greasing the baking pan.
“Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract and salt…”
“…Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving.” And, it goes (nearly) without saying, Enjoy.
The recipe carried a 5-star rating at AllRecipes, and both of us agreed. Breakfast has been pretty special this week, and with only enough rolls left for today and tomorrow, I’m planning to make another batch over the weekend.

By the way, WordPress says this is post #1000 since the Good Cats laid claim to this quiet corner of cyberspace in late 2005. Well, if nothing else, you have to admire my persistence and my nerve… [grin]

Earth Day is a good time to note that a pair of peregrine falcons have nested on the headquarters of PPL (formerly Pennsylvania Power and Light) in downtown Allentown. PPL is posting news about the nest of 4 eggs, as well as other birds of prey making their homes on PPL property.

Reaching back a few years, when Nicky really was un gatito…
We’ve never had a problem with the cats clawing the furniture, having trained them to use the cat tree in the living room instead. But after several years of daily scratching, many of the carpeted areas on the tree were pretty ragged and shabby — not the kind of thing you want in the living room when visitors arrive.
It took several trips to area stores to find a replacement, but at last we found a nice cat tree on sale, and brought it home and put the old one in the basement. The new one has carpeted areas for the cats to lie upon, like the old one, plus sisal rope and cedar logs for them to sharpen their claws.
At least, that’s what the cats are supposed to use. However, Pat came downstairs one morning and found Nicky vigorously clawing some of the carpet on the new tree. Without raising her voice, she said in mock exasperation, “Nicky, we just got this and you’re shredding it. If you keep this up, in a month this will look as bad as the last cat tree.”
She paused in her extra-gentle chastisement and looked at the kitten, who had stopped clawing, but he didn’t appear to be feeling guilt or shame for his actions. In fact, he was purring contentedly.
When Pat told me the story, the first thing I thought of was the line from Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass”: “It is a very inconvenient habit of kittens … that, whatever you say to them, they always purr.”

Pat’s gentle chastisement was also about as effective as the quiet riot act Alice read her own black kitten in Chapter One of “Through the Looking Glass”. And, this being the Internet and all, here’s the whole book.
So we know that cats purr (especially Good Cats). The next question is: Why? This page might have the best answer of all.
But if you really want to know the answer to something, you need to send your question to Cecil Adams (and his loyal assistant Ed Zotti) at The Straight Dope.

Sure, Kelly likes to get his rest in soft places, but as a Man Cat, he can also lie down on stones like these, and you’ll never hear him complain.

My sister Sandy in Michigan, responding to Thursday’s post, sent me this email:
The cats and I had an outside day today also. Cane in one hand and push broom in the other, I cleaned up the deck from its winter leaves and ended up losing the broom over the side. Oops.
As for the 5 cats, many “good cat” things were done: eating grass, balancing on the deck rail, smelling the flowers, chasing leaves, walking (and sleeping) on top of the cars, and of course, climbing trees and running. Opal, the oldest, even climbed halfway up a tree, just to show everyone she still could. But Mars, our only male cat, chose to stick with sleeping on the couch safely indoors. It was 70 degrees out, but I guess he’s waiting until the weather hits 75 or so.
A good day was made even better when [husband] John made salmon patties for dinner and gave the skin and juices to the cats. And tomorrow is another warm day.
Now how’s that for living life to its fullest??
