I had taken photos days before of the blossoms on the pear tree, but then the inevitable spring winds kicked up soon after and blew down nearly all of the small white petals. Some of them didn’t reach the ground, like these which landed in the nearby landscaping.
The way I heard the story, Bing Crosby and Phil Harris were traveling through Scotland one night and drove by a distillery with all its lights on. Bing said, “See Phil, they’re making it faster than you can drink it.”
And Phil Harris replied, “Yeah, but at least I’ve got ‘em working nights.”
That came to mind when I learned that as a result of a truck accident, 14 tons of Oreo Double Stufs were spilled on an Illinois highway. (”28,000 pounds of Oreo Double Stufs” just doesn’t have the same ring to it as Harry Chapin’s song “30,000 Pounds of Bananas”.) I bet the thought of a truck driver losing his cookies occurred to a lot of writers…
Oreos made up a good portion of a care package my mother sent to me when I was living in France. I tried to explain to my French family that these cookies were good by themselves, but they were great with a glass of milk. I poured a glass, and Madame Méron exclaimed, “But it’s not warmed up!” I dunked happily anyway, and they probably thought “Ils sont fous ces américains!”
And now the introduction of Oreos in Britain has hit a few bumps in the road there as well, also related to that strange American habit of milk-dunking…

Here’s Lizzie with the Good Cats’ 2nd entry in Kimo and Sabi’s Jump and Shout contest and fundraiser.
Here’s the Good Cats’ first entry, a photo taken by Pat’s son Jack close to 10 years ago, with one of the early digital cameras. Caitie was behind a window screen, but it reminds me of a picture taken off a TV screen:

Anyway, things are once more back to normal, and as a result I now know how to create an error page using cPanel. It’s like I always say: You don’t learn anything when everything goes right.
