Kelly is a grown-up kitten who needs his mittens.

It looks as though it's going to be one of those winters.  One storm just passed through our part of the country, and now weather forecasters are warning that another may be on the way.  Clearing the driveway and sidewalk after a snowfall isn't my favorite chore, but being realistic, we got off easy the last couple of years, and so I guess we were overdue for something like this.

The one thing you can safely predict about our weather is that it will be unpredictable.  One year, we had to endure more than 6 feet of snow.  The next year, after people prepared for the worst and bought sport-utility vehicles and snow throwers, we got barely a foot all winter.

When he first adopted us, Kelly had a thick coat from living outside, so the cold didn't bother him.  Even after heavy snow, he'd demand that we take him outside, and he'd romp through piles of snow higher than his head.  Now that the Big Guy has become accustomed to living indoors, he doesn't stay outside long on cold days anymore.  He still likes to play in the snow, though, so after a snowfall, we bring a small box of it inside, and he proceeds to bat and chase it all over the kitchen floor.
